Cartoon Watches You!

A stitch of three screen caps showing a wide angle view of the Venture compound.

I made this stitch from three different screen caps. The shot starts tight on Hank and Brock, then pans to the right as it pulls out (difficulty level 7). It’s a really great shot and that beautiful backdrop looks like it’s from a 1970s beer commercial.

Dean is turning, scanning the horizon, but I like this perspective the best.

Venture Villains, Part Deux: Fallen Arches

Click for embiggening

Made this pan out of four screens from “Fallen Arches.” In case you were wondering what all these guys are so excited about, it’s Rusty doing a shirtless “car wash” on his dad’s Walking Eye prototype.

Can’t remember the last time I was this turned off.

I mean, who wouldn’t be into that?

Everybody Comes to Hank’s

So far, this is my favorite episode from the second half of the fourth season of The Venture Bros. television show.

Granted, much of it is colorless, but I think a lot of what is lost in the visuals is made up for in a top-notch storyline.

The Believable World of the Venture Bros. – (a.k.a. The Rusty Venture Backstory)

Rusty’s a good scientist.

It’s not that he’s unable to come up with anything good; rather, society views his inventions as too radical.

Rusty is dealing with Luddites.

We’ve certainly seen him develop new creations. Unfortunately, the “Joy Can” was powered by an orphan heart. This is comparable to modern society’s struggle with stem cell tissue research. It is conceivably his own creation.

At the very least, it was one of his father’s many fantastic unfinished creations. It is likely that any project his father would have abandoned would have been stopped because of moral or ethical considerations. Although, the Ooo ray was technically a “weapon of mass destruction” Rusty had never considered it as such.

Some famous scientists are only able to narrowly focus their attention on their particularly narrow field.

Then there’s the metasonic locator. We never get to see this actually in action, other than it emits large white rings, awakens “Ghost Astronauts” and comically oversized shellfish. But, according to its description, this device is some sort of time travel viewer that can be shown on objects to reveal what they looked like in the past.

Lest us forget, Rusty does, in fact, locate the flying saucer.

(NSFW) The Dr. Girlfriend Nip Slip

Okay, so I’m kind of a perv for noticing this. Let’s just get that out of the way right now.

I was watching my DVDs for the umpteenth time when I noticed something peculiar.

I have little way of knowing if this is already out there. A web search of the terms girlfriend and topless yields a dizzying array of results. But, I did my best and from what I can tell I may be one of the first to have noticed this.

I suspect Herr McCulloch (aka Jackson Publick) and Doc Hammer may gone through puberty desperately needing to touch some girl parts because there’s this sequence in the penultimate episode of the third season of The Venture Bros. In “The Family That Slays Together, Stays Together” Part I, about four minutes from the closing credits, Dr. Girlfriend is sitting on Brock Samson’s bed, waiting for him to enter the room. She’s propped herself up and is adjusting her costume when she has *drum roll* a wardrobe malfunction.

And out pops one of her dirty pillows.

Hooray for super science!

Oh, before I forget: “Hi, mom!”

New Music from Doc Hammer of The Venture Bros. – Los Angeles Music – West Coast Sound

In an ongoing effort to keep our fellow music/animation geeks up-to-date on all things Venture, we thought you might like to know that Venture Bros. co-writer/voice of many characters Doc Hammer has some new music on the way. Hammer, formerly of the goth-friendly bands Requiem in White and Mors Syphilitica, currently fronts New York-based outfit Weep, who despite their strangely straightforward cover of Rihanna's hit “Shut up and Drive,” reminds us of bands like Jesus & Mary Chain and Catherine Wheel.
